GTIN

The global number of commodity products in the unified international database of goodsGS1. It is used to account for goods in the global supply flow, in distribution centers, retail and wholesale trade, warehouses, accounting, and so on, in order to produce unambiguous identification of goods and find them in databases. The universal number can include both global and other data about the product.

The GTIN code has a length of 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits, only numbers are used, letters or other characters are not allowed.

Each of the digital circuits is built by analogy with previous standards and includes a company prefix, product code and a check digit. Accounting of numbers (barcodes) of commercial products in Russia is conducted by the Association of automatic identification "UNISCAN/GS1 RUS" (GS1 RUS, GS1)

Developed and maintained by GS1, a non-profit organization for the development of information standards in the field of business processes. It operates alongside the American UPC standard and the European EAN.

The barcode decryption contains

• Data on the packaging method (indicator numbers from 0 to 8).
• The data indicating who owns the brand of the product, that is, the international registration number, is assigned by the GS1 organization.
• The article number of the product is assigned by its owner.
• The check number is calculated by the scanner using an algorithm confirming the correctness of the barcode

Any bar code, including

" >GTIN, must comply with an international standard in order to be read correctly in all countries of the world and contain reliable information.

To put a GTIN on a product, it is necessary to join the GS1 National Organization (it operates in more than a hundred countries, in Russia it is the International Association of Commodity Numbering, GS1 RUS) - this condition is not mandatory and voluntary for companies.

The registration of the presence of GTIN (a list of tags and GTIN numbers in the Marking and traceability System of goods in the "Russia USAIS" system) is issued in the centers of the MFC.
