The Unified Tariff and Statistical Nomenclature of Goods includes the names and code designations of goods used by railways in the preparation of transportation documents for the calculation of freight charges on the territory of the roads of JSC "Russian Railways". It is used for export/import and transportation in Russia.

In the documents for the carriage of goods, the name and code of the cargo of the ETSNG must be indicated. If there is no such name in the alphabetical list, then it is not allowed to name the cargo with generalizing names of the ETSNG positions, andcargoit must be designated under the name under which it is indicated in the relevant documentation for this cargo, indicating the code of the cargo named in the alphabetical list of the ETSNG, to which the cargo can be attributed by its properties.

The length of the cargo code designation is six characters and has the following structure:

• the first two digits are the tariff group of the cargo;
• the third digit is the number of the cargo position in the tariff group;
• the fourth and fifth digits are the serial number of the cargo in the tariff position;
• the sixth digit is a control number. The use of a check number for marking in transportation and other forms of documents is determined by the instructions for filling in these documents.
