The cost of illegally exported timber to China amounted to over 148.5 million rubles.

The smuggling of lumber was carried out by organized criminal groups through front companies that were used as suppliers of timber, but were not actually engaged in harvesting and selling timber.

According to Alexey Ksenofontov, head of the Vladivostok Customs investigation department, members of an organized criminal group illegally acquired strategically important resources on the territory of Russia - lumber from Mongolian oak and Manchurian ash, and then exported them to China using forged documents, stating false information about the origin of the goods during customs declaration.

On the facts of timber smuggling, Vladivostok Customs initiated 2 criminal cases under Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - illegal movement across the customs borderThe EAEUstrategically important resources on a large scale, committed by an organized group, whose sanction provides for imprisonment for up to twelve years.
